Research on the impact of community-themed songwriting on the community

A workshop for songwriting and lyric writing was held by residents in a village where an elementary school had been closed in the Owada district of Nomura-cho, Seiyo City, Ehime Prefecture. The study then clarified the impact on local residents by having them themselves create songs about their community. In this study, we investigated whether there was an increase in community attachment, time perspective, awareness of community survival, willingness to participate in traditional events, and willingness to participate in new events, and considered whether song-making workshops are effective as one of community revitalization activities. The results revealed that the higher the level of involvement in the songwriting process and in the completed community song, the higher the attachment to the community and the intention regarding community continuity.
