Toward the Implementation of Cycle Tourism in Regions with Backward Bicycle Tourism Policies

A Trial of the Tokushima Mini-Velo Adventure Tourism Summit

Abstract

This study is a practical report of three Mini-Velo Adventure Tourism Summits conducted since 2023. This tour is unique in that it is not mass tourism, but a small number of fully-attended tours limited to those involved in the bicycle industry, which is the livelihood of one of the authors. The bicycle industry is a global network with Taiwan as the center of production, and the combination with this network led to future inbound tourism plans from Taiwan and the manufacture of original bicycles specialized for the Shikoku pilgrimage. The combination of the existing bicycle industry business community with the traditional local host network as a sightseeing tour has resulted in a populated relationship that has spawned a variety of innovative tours that were not initially anticipated.
