In July 2025, the courtship behavior of the Purple Emperor Butterfly (Sasakia charonda) was observed in Ome City, Tokyo. At the sap site, we were able to continuously observe behaviors from the approach of males and females, failure to mate, successful mating, behaviors during mating, and the situation after mating. This observation contributes to the understanding of the behavior of this species in the wild, as it represents a rare case in which mating occurred between individuals feeding on tree sap.
