Abstract

This study defined "Technology Buzzwords" as 1) rapidly gaining popularity in the business environment but with ambiguous definitions, 2) dealing with contemporary issues targeting information and communication-based technologies, and 3) under the control of official certification systems.

We then identified which firms appeal to adopt the "Technology Buzzwords" and which firms are evaluated as practitioners of the "Technology Buzzwords".

In this study, we defined the technology buzzword as "DX," and analyzed the relationship between "DX Certification" and "DX stocks" status, performance and financial data, year of establishment, and whether or not the company is an IT company.

The results revealed that "firms founded before 1945" and "non-IT firms" actively promote the adoption of "Technology Buzzwords" but are reluctant to put them into practice.

Furthermore, "firms with operating cash flow above the median", "firms with a net profit margin below the median", and "firms with investment cash flow below median" were more likely to actively promote the adoption of "Technology Buzzwords" and more likely to practice them.
