The Relationship Between Makeup Behaviour and Narcissistic Personality in Thai Male and Female Adolescents

Young people's strong preoccupation with fashion such as clothing and makeup is thought to be related to narcissistic personality. Several previous studies have shown a relationship between makeup behaviours and narcissistic personality in Japanese male and female adolescents. This study investigated the relationship between makeup behaviours and narcissistic personality was examined in Thai male and female adolescents, in order to compare the results with those of Japanese adolescents. This research was conducted using an online survey with 83 males (M=19.96 years old, SD=1.49) and 305 females (M=19.96 years old, SD=1.27).
For the male, it was clear that makeup behaviours were partially specified by “narcissistic personality”. It was also clear that makeup behaviours were partially specified by “leadership” and “praise for the body” on narcissistic personality subscales. For the female, it was clear that makeup behaviours were partially specified by “narcissistic personality”. It was also clear that makeup behaviours were specified by “praise for the body” and were partially specified by “leadership” on narcissistic personality subscales.
