Abstract

In today's uncertain society, the meaning of careers and work is not obvious, and individuals need to create their own work and careers that are meaningful to them. Wrzesniewski & Dutton (2001) proposed the concept of job crafting, providing a perspective in which employees change their work tasks and interactions with others to create meaningful work for themselves. However, there is a lack of research on job crafting that seeks to identify how individuals create or change meaningful experiences in the workplace. Therefore, this paper collected literature that critiques what is missing in previous research and what extensions are needed to develop job crafting research as a process of creating and changing meaning at work. As a result, an integrated model was presented based on the four pathways framework of job meaningfulness (Rosso et al., 2010). The extension of the job crafting concept and the usefulness of integrative research accumulation were discussed.
