A Nationwide 250-meter Grid Dataset of Multi-Hazard Population Exposure for Japan

We present and release a unified nationwide dataset on population exposure to multiple natural hazards in Japan. The dataset integrates hazard information for flood inundation, areas where buildings are at high risk of collapse due to flooding, storm surge inundation, tsunami inundation, and landslide hazard warning areas with population data from the 2020 Population Census of Japan on a 250-meter grid (JIS X 0410 quarter mesh). For flood, storm surge, and tsunami hazards, we record the maximum inundation‑depth class per grid cell. For each hazard and cell, we provide an inclusion flag, the within‑cell coverage ratio, and the estimated exposed population obtained by weighting the cell population by that ratio. The dataset is openly available with a persistent DOI for reuse. As an application example using this dataset, we visualized exposure patterns with a web‑based GIS (Geographic Information System).
