When infection with SARS-CoV-2 was confirmed in Japan during January 2020, face masks and rubbing alcohol (ethanol) rapidly disappeared from drugstores to prevent droplet, aerosol, and contact infection. The present study aimed to determine the ability of ethanol, hypochlorite, and ozone water to inactivate SARS-CoV-2 on the hands. We searched the literature and analyzed these agents using international standard procedures, as well as the opinions of the WHO and CDC and the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, the Consumer Affairs Agency, and the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare of Japan. Ethanol was clearly effective against SARS-CoV-2. The results suggested that rinsing hands with hypochlorite and ozone water is effective against SARS-CoV-2 like ethanol.
